Both houses are situated in the heart of Provence, giving you all the ambiance of local village life, with morning markets for fresh produce, cafes, restaurants, bakeries, delicatessen's, caves for wine tasting, antique brocantes, potteries and many other interesting shops. Surrounded by the mountains of Mount Ventoux, the Dentelles, the Luberon and les Alpilles there are many interesting places to go and a variety of sporting activities to do. Or you can simply relax in the garden, under the shade of a tree, sampling the local wines, and watching the olives grow! The coast and its beaches are accessible within 1 to 2 hours, with the larger festival towns of Avignon and Carpentras within half an hour and airports all within an hour's drive.

The Olive Garden - Caromb

 

Caromb itself is a lovely old walled village, It has two restaurants, a cave, an excellent delicatessen with wonderful local produce, two supermarkets, a pattiserie, an organic butchers, post office, bars, and many other interesting shops.

 

The Apple Orchard - Le Thor

 

In the centre of town is the impressive Romanesque church Notre-Dame-du-Lac, and just outside, set on a hill amidst oak forests, are ancient tower ruins, perfect to get a view of the surrounding mountains. Three kilometres north of Le Thor is the Grotte de Thouzon, one of the prettiest cave systems in Provence.

 

The house is situated in the countryside, surrounded by fruit orchards and sunflower fields and so is very quiet and peaceful. The meandering river Sorgue provides the opportunity to fish, canoe, and enjoy local walks. Along with cycling and horse riding, there are also tennis courts just outside the village. Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and L'Isle sur-la-Sorgue, with it's famous antiques markets and river cafes, is only ten minutes away. The city of Avignon is 20 minutes by car, as are the towns of St-Rémy and Carpentras, with their Romanesque landmarks and Provençal markets. Visiting the picturesque hillside towns of Gordes and Roussillon in the Luberon make for a perfect day's outing. And then there's the Roman attraction of Pont du Gard, the inspiring Canyon du Verdon and the coast's beaches and water sports all within a one to two hour drive.

Walking and mountain biking are virtually on the doorstep & it is possible to find a new trail every day. It is a wonderful area for walking and cycling, with the Tour de France final stage often at nearby Mount Ventoux, when the race actually passes through Caromb. There are tennis courts in the village, horse riding & many rivers with canoeing, & two lakes close by, one with fishing. For lovers of good wines, Chateauneuf du pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes de Venise, and of course Caromb, caves are all nearby, Both Avignon and Carpentras have long summer festivals with music, dance and theatre, with Avignon's cultural activities continuing thoughout the year. The local villages have fetes during the long, hot summer months. Avignon and Carpentras are also a shoppers delight, as are all the daily local markets and brocantes.

The coast is a one hour, forty minutes drive away, with the pretty resort of Cassis the closest. The Camargue is just over an hour and a half away, with its wonderful wild life of flamingo's, bulls, horses etc. The Roman cities of Vaison, Orange, Aix en Provence, and Arles are not far away.
